Frequently Asked Questions

Is thickness an important factor in electrical matting?

Thickness is determined by the mat specification. The authorisation body (BS, IEC, ASTM, etc) determine what the thickness of the matting has to be to meet the paticular matting specification rating.

The thickness therefore does not necessarily mean the thicker the matting the higher the protection will be in working voltage terms. SO PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK THE RATING REQUIRED FOR YOUR EQUIPMENT AND NOT THE THICKNESS OF THE PRODUCT BEING OFFERED.

Which way up do I use Electrical safety matting?

It is best to have the flutes or textured surface uppermost to use the anti-slip benefit however you can use the side with the identity marking on if you wish it makes no difference to the capability aspect of the matting.

Is the matting compliant with relevant safety standards such as ASTM D178, IEC 61111, or other local regulations?

YES! All electrical safety matting must be tested by an independent authority who then issues the compliant certificate for the product.

How is it designed to insulate and protect workers from electrical shocks?

By creating a barrier between the live equipment and earth.

The specific voltage levels that you can use within the facility will be determined by the equipment.

How durable and resistant is the matting?

This is dependant on the product - please contact us if you need help or advice with this.

What is the expected lifespan of the product?

Depending on traffic however any signs of wear should be investigated for possible replacement.

Are there customization options, such as color or surface texture, that match the requirements or preferences of the facility?

No as the matting has to be tested to conform to it’s required specification and can therefore not be altered from that particular test procedure.

How is the matting installed?

By laying it in front of the equipment on the floor!

Are there specific cleaning procedures or periodic testing needed to ensure that the matting continues to provide adequate protection over time?

Cleaning by brush and would only require testing if it had been subject to a discharged electric current.
