A barrier mat, also known as an entrance mat or entryway mat, is a floor covering designed to trap dirt, moisture, and debris at the entrance of a building. It serves as the first line of defence, preventing contaminants from being carried further into the interior space.
The primary function of commercial barrier mats is to control and reduce the entry of dirt, moisture, and debris into a commercial space.
These mats act as a protective barrier, enhancing cleanliness, safety, and the overall maintenance of the indoor environment.
Commercial barrier mats are highly effective in trapping dirt and moisture. The design and construction of these mats involve specialised materials and patterns that efficiently capture and retain particles, preventing them from being tracked inside the building.
Yes, commercial barrier mats are designed to be durable and resilient, making them essential for high-traffic areas. Their ability to withstand frequent use while maintaining effectiveness in trapping contaminants also helps to reduce cleaning costs within the building making them perfectly suited for busy entrances.
Commercial barrier mats are commonly constructed from a variety of materials, including nylon, polyester, rubber, and vinyl. These materials are chosen for their durability, moisture-wicking properties, and ease of maintenance.
Many commercial barrier mats can be customised in terms of both size and design. This flexibility allows businesses to choose mats that fit specific entrance dimensions and align with their branding or aesthetic preferences.
Yes, anti-slip features should always be incorporated into the design of commercial barrier mats. This helps prevent accidents by ensuring that the mats remain securely in place, especially in areas prone to moisture or where there is a risk of slips and falls.
The lifespan of commercial barrier mats can vary based on factors such as materials used including quality, thickness and type of those materials along with the level of foot traffic they experience. On average, well-maintained barrier mats can last several years, providing reliable performance over an extended period.
Please check with your supplier to ensure the commercial barrier mats you are purchasing meets with building safety regulations and are DDA compliant . Compliance ensures that the mats contribute to a safe and secure entrance environment for anyone entering or leaving your building, particularly in areas where slip hazards may be a concern.
Please check with your supplier to ensure that the commercial barrier mats you are considering are designed for use in a commercial environment and the warranty is for that use which will offer assurance to you regarding the quality and durability of the product. Warranty terms do vary, so it's important to check for the specific details on the exact mat you are ordering.
Rubber matting serves as an insulating barrier between individuals and the ground, preventing the flow of electric current. Rubber is a non-conductive material, and when used as a matting material, it helps to isolate workers or equipment from the electrical potential of the ground, thereby reducing the risk of electric shock.
The IEC standard for insulation mats is IEC 61111. With classes from class 0 to class 4 these classes have differing working and tested voltage ratings. This standard outlines the requirements and testing methods for electrical insulating mats used for the protection of workers against electric shock in workplaces where the risk of electrical accidents exists.
Electrical matting, specifically insulation mats, is used to provide a safe working environment in areas where there is a risk of electric shock whilst working on live switchboards. These mats create an insulating barrier between individuals and the ground, ensuring protection for workers handling electrical equipment or working in locations where electrical hazards are present.
To avoid Electrostatic Discharge (ESD), anti-static mats or ESD mats are used. These mats are designed to dissipate static electricity, preventing the buildup of static charges on individuals or equipment in environments where electronic components are handled, thus minimising the risk of damage.
The thickness of electrical safety mats varies according to the classification it has been tested to but they typically range from 3mm to 6mm. The thickness is determined by the test it has to comply with i.e. ASTM D178 or IEC61111 or other test regulations and cannot be altered from those test requirements.
While both ESD mats and insulation mats are designed to prevent electrical issues, they serve different purposes. ESD mats are focused on dissipating static electricity in environments with sensitive electronic equipment, while insulation mats are primarily used to insulate against electric shock in areas with electrical hazards.
The standard size of electrical rubber safety matting can vary, but generally it is manufactured in rolls of 91cm, 100cm and 120cm widths and in 10 Mtr long rolls. It can be cut down from these roll sizes into any smaller sizes. It is supplied in longer lengths i.e.20 Mtrs by some manufacturers but you would need to check with your supplier.
Rubber mats are tested for electrical resistance and other properties to ensure their effectiveness in preventing electric shock. Testing methods include using high-voltage test apparatus to measure resistance and checking for any weak spots in the compound to ensure the matting is compliant with the relevant guaranteed standards, which include IEC 61111. Class 0 - class 4, ASTM D178 class 1 - class 5 and similar regulations that are accepted in countries around the world.
Determining the correct class of electrical mat involves checking the electrical apparatus that you are working with. The equipment will have a tested and working voltage range indicated on the equipment and the recommended standard that it has been tested under.
Always consult an electrical engineer before purchasing any electrical switchboard safety matting to ensure any product you purchase is suitable for the equipment being worked on.
DO NOT ASSUME that 1 type and class will suit similar pieces of equipment in the same area.
CHECK each piece of equipment that you are purchasing the matting for to ensure suitability.
Coir Mats consist of natural coconut fibres (Coir) with a PVC (polyvinyl chloride) backing. The PVC backing is essential for holding the Coir fibres in place, providing stability to the mat. It's important to note that Coir is not recyclable due to the PVC backing.
Coir Mats are known for their durability, making them suitable for low to medium traffic areas.
However, it's crucial to understand that Coir is not suitable for very heavy traffic areas, as the fibres become loose and shed over time the more traffic the faster this happens. The average lifespan in medium to low traffic areas is around two years.
Coir mats are not recommended for areas open to the elements, as the fibres will eventually rot.
Customers can choose from a range of sizes up to 2 Meters in width X lengths up to 6 Meters with designs and 8 standard colours to customise your logo in a Coir mat. It's important to note that all Coir mats are not DDA compliant, and mats with a thickness over 17mm should not be used in public entrances, especially for individuals with mobility issues.
The combination of the natural texture of Coir fibres and the PVC backing helps keep the mats securely in place, reducing the risk of slips and falls.
The lifespan of Coir Mats can vary based on factors such as quality, thickness, and foot traffic. On average, well-maintained Coir mats can last around two years in medium to low traffic areas. It's crucial to note that Coir mats are not recyclable due to the PVC backing, and they are not recommended for public entrances in thicknesses over 17mm or areas constantly exposed to the elements.
It serves as perfect primary barrier matting for both indoor and outdoor use, where sand or fine grit or excessive amounts of water is your main problem of keeping these elements out of your building being weather and rot proof and the coils capturing the sand and grit. Additionally, it's exceptionally tough and durable.
Yes, Pastaloop offers customization, allowing you to choose from seven colours and select the size that fits your requirements from standard rolls of 1.2 Metre widths up to 18 Metres in length.
Pastaloop excels in entrances, changing rooms, and wet areas; its PVC coil design tackles water by allowing it to run through the coils and the sand and dust gets trapped in the coils to be removed later.
